Scholarships Help Hannah Stay Home

Hannah Fukushima is able to stay in Hawai‘i and pursue her dreams thanks to the Fun Factory Scholarship.

Hannah shared, “I grew up in Pauoa valley and attended Roosevelt High School. Like every other person, I have had my fair amount of challenges that I needed to overcome in order to get to where I am today. One challenge I faced in the beginning of high school was learning how to manage my time as I was a student athlete. 

My family has always been so loving and supportive but that does not mean we didn't have any financial issues. Growing up with a single mom has had its challenges but she always put my needs above her own. I considered going to the mainland for college but a big reason why I decided to attend UH is because of the scholarships and opportunities I received. 

I am lucky to be a part of the Direct Entry Nursing program at UH Mānoa and I hope to graduate in four years with a BS in Nursing. I really love working with people, especially young children, and I am hoping to specialize in either pediatrics or neonatal care in the future. Also, since I love living here in Hawai‘i, finding a job close to home would be ideal. 

I would like to say thank you to all the donors who are funding scholarships. These scholarships are so helpful to students and their families and I think donors are doing a great job in making a difference in the lives of others. Their generosity can really ease the burden on some families and it is very much appreciated.”
