Donors, student scholarship recipients, and UH Hilo faculty and staff gathered in the campus center dining room to celebrate the impact of scholarships, and to honor the generous donors who are supporting students’ success.

During the program, speakers including UH Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney, and UH Foundation Director of Scholarship Development Malia Peters spoke passionately about the transformational impact scholarships make in the lives of students and their families. Guests also heard from donor Audrey Furukawa who upon retirement from UH Hilo, joined family and friends in establishing a scholarship endowment supporting study abroad opportunities for UH Hilo students.

Students Sabrina and Samantha Hanabaga shared their personal stories about how scholarships have helped them. The twins recited the 3 B’s – “Believe, Balance and Become” as integral steps in achieving success in their academic careers and in life.

We are so grateful to all of you for making a college education a dream come true for so many of our students. Mahalo.
