Honoring Dr. Gary Varner’s Legacy in Physics and Mentorship

Varner Student Support Fund

  • Gary Varner

Dr. Gary Varner was a brilliant scientist and a dedicated mentor whose work transformed experimental particle physics and inspired generations of students. His innovations in instrumentation and electronics powered groundbreaking projects such as the SuperKEKB/Belle II experiment in Japan and the ANITA project in Antarctica, while his guidance shaped careers across the globe.

Gary’s commitment to teaching and collaboration left an indelible mark on the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UH Mānoa. He believed deeply in nurturing talent and advancing knowledge, a vision we seek to continue through the Varner Graduate Award.

This award will support graduate students in physics, fostering the same spirit of discovery and mentorship that defined Gary’s career. Your contribution sustains a legacy of excellence and ensures future scientists have the resources to innovate and thrive.
