Education creates understanding. It opens doors that might otherwise remain closed. At the William S. Richardson School of Law, the Ulu Lehua Program helps aspiring law students step through these doors, offering preparation, mentorship and a sense of connection along the way. 

The Jackie Mahi Erickson ’77 Ulu Lehua Seminar Room Fund builds on this work, in a space where students can gather, learn and envision what comes next. 

Why this matters 

For many students in Hawaiʻi, the path to law school begins long before the first day of classes. Preparation, guidance and encouragement help shape the journey, building confidence and clarity over time. 

Decades ago, Jackie Erickson followed encouragement from her community to enroll in UH Law, becoming part of its second graduating class. Her experience affirmed a belief that continues to guide her: when one person steps forward, others begin to see new possibilities themselves. 

Today, Ulu Lehua carries this forward, supporting students as they prepare for law school while deepening their connections to community and purpose.
