Chelsea Kalei Ramos is a freshman in the nursing program at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Chelsea grew up on Maui and was admitted into UH Manoa's High School Direct Entry in Nursing Program after graduating from Lahainaluna High School. She is a recipient of the Moses M. Lo and Sheila M.D. Lo Scholarship. This is an excerpt of her thank you letter to donors.
I am extremely grateful to have been selected, especially since nursing is very competitive, and I am excited for what's to come. I chose to study at UH Mānoa because it has a well-ranked nursing program that places a strong emphasis on community health.
My career goal is to one day work at a healthcare facility as a registered nurse, where I will exemplify the true meaning of what it means to be a compassionate caregiver. I hope to champion health in my community and provide holistic care because both of these things can go such a long way in promoting community betterment.
Being a freshman who is new to campus, my experience at UH has been great so far. Everyone here is welcoming and I love that the culture here is similar to back home in Lahaina. I still have a long road ahead of me in my college journey, but I am blessed to be here and I am ready to take on the challenges!
