"The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle cares deeply about the natural resources of Windward Oʻahu – including our youth. We have a long history of being good stewards of our islands' natural environment; as such, we must prepare our youth to become active leaders in respecting and preserving these vital resources."

Joan Fleming, President of Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle

(Windward CC) — Renewing its commitment to Windward CC students, The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle recently gave $5,000 through the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation to support the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Environmental Studies Scholarship and the Windward Community College Agriculture Scholarship Fund. The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle has supported scholarship funds at Windward Community College since 1994.

The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Environmental Studies Scholarship supports students studying in the environmental sciences at Windward Community College, with preference given to graduates of Windward Oʻahu high school graduates. $2,500 will be available for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Windward Community College Agriculture Scholarship Fund provides assistance to students in the Agriculture Program at Windward Community College. $2,500 will be available for the 2011-2012 academic year.

"We are fortunate to have the support of the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle. The two student scholarships funded—Environmental studies and Agriculture technology—will help fill the growing need for scholarships in these areas and ultimately benefit the sustainability of our island state," said Windward Community College Chancellor Douglas Dykstra. "Windward CC is working to positively impact the future of our community and we are so pleased to have a strong partner in Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle."

In presenting the check to Chancellor Dykstra, Joan Fleming said "The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle is proud to provide scholarships in agriculture and environmental sciences for students at Windward CC. The classroom education and hands-on experience they receive will prepare them very well for continued education or entering the workforce as advocates for responsible and sustainable environmental stewardship."
