Grants will be awarded in supports of education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education. Historically, grants have supported research projects on a range of topics and disciplines such as education, philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, sociology, law, economics, history, and anthropology. In addition, the foundation encourages methodological diversity in answering pressing questions and is open to projects that employ a wide array of research methods including quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, ethnographies, design-based research, participatory methods, and historical research.

Eligible applicants include principal investigators and Co-PIs must have earned a doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field, or demonstrate appropriate experience in an education research-related profession.
