Applications are invited for investigator-initiated research proposals focused on the broad area of sports medicine multicenter research trials and is for established multicenter groups or networks that have not yet achieved major external funding such as the NIH, DOD, PCORI, etc. The multicenter groups must be focused on clinical research addressing an important clinical problem that requires multicenter involvement to answer the clinical question(s). Most importantly, the group must identify a PI who is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon and who is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. This multicenter proposal is a mentored grant especially for the PI and the investigator team. The normal criterion of publication is not the goal of this opportunity, rather the goal is to establish the PI and team in securing major external funding.
A practicing orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship-trained and who is a member of AOSSM must serve in the role of Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI. A PhD may serve as a PI only if an orthopaedic surgeon serves as co-PI. The orthopaedic surgeon must have a valid license to practice in the United States.
Phase 1 proposals are due January 15, 2022. Selected applicants will be invited to Phase 2 to meet with the members of the AOSSM Sports Medicine Oversight Group (SMOG) during the AAOS Annual Meeting in March 2022.
