Grants will be awarded in support of research projects that aim to characterize, develop objective methods to assess, or evaluate interventions for misophonia. Projects should display interdisciplinary collaboration, novelty, creativity, and promise in seeking innovative approaches to understand, diagnose, and/or treat misophonia.
The scientific focus of proposals should address one or more of the following three broad focus areas in human, animal, or relevant research models:
- Characterization of misophonia: Proposals may include a wide range of approaches to examine underlying biological and/or behavioral mechanisms; expressions and trajectories of symptoms, impairment, and related phenomena including individual variability and trends within and between populations; etiologies and/or longitudinal developments using interdisciplinary approaches and multidisciplinary teams; and the use of multiple measurement methods.
- Development of objective methods: Proposals may develop or validate physiological and/or behavioral methods to assess misophonia.
- Clinical and/or animal model studies: Proposals may use experimental methods to develop and/or evaluate interventions for misophonia, including novel treatment approaches and controlled comparative efficacy trials of promising treatments.
All proposed research projects must be led by a principal investigator who holds a doctorate (e.g., PhD, MD, PsyD, AuD) or a related research doctorate degree. PIs must be either independent investigators or postdoctoral fellows.
Letters of Intent are due by December 10, 2021. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal, due on March 11, 2022.
