Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation - Fellowship Award

Details

The Damon Runyon Fellowship Award supports theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies, and prevention. Awards will be made to institutions in support of a fellow under the direct supervision of a sponsor or scientist who can provide mentoring to the fellow. Fellowships are granted a four-year term, with second-, third-, and fourth-year funding contingent on satisfactory progress reports. In addition, fellows in their first and third years of funding will attend Damon Runyon Fellows' Retreats.

The first-year stipend is $52,000, with an additional $2,000 expense allowance. A dependent child allowance of $1,000 per child per year will also be provided. The Foundation will retire up to $100,000 of any qualifying medical school debt still owed by the awardee.

Applicants must have received their degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, DO or equivalent) no more than 24 months prior to the application deadline date and must not have been in their sponsors' labs for more than one year prior. Applicants who have not yet received their PhD but have successfully completed all requirements, including PhD defense, may submit a letter from the graduate school explicitly stating such, with the dates of the PhD defense and degree conferral.
