Grants will be awarded in three categories:
- Postdoctoral Fellowship Program: Grants of up to $200,000 over two years will be awarded to young postdoctoral researchers during their final stages of mentored training. The award provides salary support for a young scientist to conduct postdoctoral studies in an established laboratory focused on research contributing to understanding the biological causes and/or new clinical treatment of macular degeneration and should also serve as the basis for the applicant's own independent research career.
- New Investigator Grant Program: Grants of up to $450,000 over three years will be awarded to investigators during their early years as independent investigators involved in studies that impact the causes and/or treatment of macular degeneration.
- Innovative Research Grants: Grants of up to $600,000 over three years will be awarded to support high-risk/high-gain age-related macular degeneration research. The foundation hopes to attract established investigators to apply for this support, but the aims of the application must contain outside-the-box ideas that are novel in the field.
Letters of Intent are due by July 28, 2022. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by December 5, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
