Doris Duke Foundation – Physician Scientist Fellowship

Details

The mission of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is to improve the quality of people's lives through grants supporting the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research, and child well-being and through preserving the cultural and environmental legacy of Doris Duke's properties.

To that end, the foundation invites applications for the 2023 Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship program, which provides grants to physician-scientists at the subspecialty fellowship level seeking to conduct additional years of research beyond their subspecialty requirement to aid in the transition into a research faculty appointment. The goals of the fellowship program are to 1) support physician-scientists in subspecialty fellowship to conduct an outstanding clinical research project, 2) ensure research time protection to develop research skills, and 3) facilitate strong mentor relationships.

The fellowship consists of $100,000 for annual direct costs plus $10,000 (10 percent) for annual indirect costs for two years. The priority of the fellowship program is to fund outstanding individuals with excitement for clinical research careers whose projects will address highly significant research questions and lead to career advancement. DDCF does not have funding priorities for this fellowship based on disease area or research type.

To be eligible, applicants must have a clinical subspecialty fellowship with a completion date that falls between June 30, 2022, and July 1, 2024; have completed the majority of the clinical training portion of the fellowship by the award start date, July 1, 2023; and not have an appointment as a faculty member including but not limited to the instructor or assistant professor as of the award start date. Applicants need not be U.S. citizens.
