Health/Medical Research

Grants will be awarded in support of basic and clinical research conducted in Hawai‘i. The overall goal of the program is to support a robust local medical research community that benefits the people of Hawai‘i.

Priority is given to research projects that advance as many of the following elements as possible:

Grants will be awarded in support of pilot initiatives or demonstration projects for models that increase employment for individuals with disabilities. The foundation has a special interest in projects that address the intersection of race, class, gender, disability, and poverty within the framework of helping individuals with disabilities obtain employment or re-enter the job market following injury.

Grants will be awarded in support of high-quality, independent research that contributes significantly and directly to the knowledge of massage therapy and/or its application. Basic, applied, and translational research studies investigating massage therapy as wellness, medical, or health/mental health treatment and/or prevention intervention are supported.

Applications are invited for the NYSCF – Robertson Neuroscience Investigator Awards to early career investigators in support of research in neuroscience. Applicants are invited to apply from all fields in neuroscience and need not be working in areas related to stem cells.

Grants will be awarded in support of investigator-initiated research focused on exploring the impact of regulatory practices on the patient-physician relationship. Proposals should examine how and to what extent the burden of additional required documentation impacts the amount and quality of time a physician has available to focus on direct patient care.

Grants will be awarded in support of a number of topic areas including but not limited to age-related hearing loss; auditory and vestibular implants; hearing aids; Central Auditory Processing Disorder; diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hearing loss and balance disturbance; epidemiology of auditory and vestibular disorders; pediatric hearing disorders and hearing loss in children; human genetics and mouse models of peripheral and central auditory/balance d

Applications are invited for projects to analyze postmortem brain tissue from the Autism BrainNet collection.  SFARI will encourage individual and collaborative applications that study and compare gene expression at the tissue single-cell level. Such analyses could also include alternative splicing/isoform analysis, RNA editing, noncoding RNAs, epigenetic modifications and/or proteomics.

Applications are invited for the 2022 Fellowship, which will offer salary support for dermatology and/or allergy fellowship programs at institutions with expertise in inflammatory and immune-mediated dermatological disorders and a strong focus on clinical practice, research, and education to further the understanding of inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata.

ACSM invites applications for the Paffenbarger-Blair Fund for Epidemiological Research on Physical Activity.

A single grant of $10,000 will be awarded to an early-career researcher investigating physical activity epidemiology. Applications may focus on observational studies of physical activity and health outcomes, or on randomized controlled trials that are clearly focused on physical activity and important public health issues.

Grants will be awarded in support of pre-clinical, translational, and clinical research on the etiology, molecular biology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of human sarcomas.
