Applications are invited for the Harvest for Health Breakthrough Crop Challenge. Harvest for Health (H4H) aims to accelerate the development of underutilized crops and increase the diversity of nutritious foods in the marketplace.
The H4H initiative consists of two phases:
- Phase I — Breakthrough Crop Challenge: This will focus on building a predictive model to identify underutilized crops with properties of interest to food and ingredient companies.
- Phase II — Commercial Development of Select Crops: This will focus on using the developed predictive model to prioritize underutilized crops for commercial development based on their potential for increased public and private investments.
This challenge focuses on Phase I, where up to five seed grants of up $75,000 each will be awarded to the most promising concept notes describing the development and validation of a predictive model to be used in Challenge applications. In Phase II, Predictive Model Development and Validation, a grant of $1 million will be awarded to the predictive model that meets all outlined criteria and receives the highest score from a detailed review.
Concept notes are due by July 20, 2022. Seed funding Announcements will be made in the fall of 2022. All recipients of the Seed Grant in Phase I must apply for the Phase II Challenge, which will open March 15, 2023, with applications to be due July 12, 2023.
