Grants will be awarded to support the development of innovative clinical quality measures that promote excellence in the diagnosis of three categories of disease that comprise the most common and most harmful diagnostic errors: acute vascular events (such as stroke and myocardial infarction), infections (such as sepsis and pneumonia), and cancer (such as lung and colorectal cancer).

Applications are invited from outstanding early-career investigators in support of high-impact, high-risk projects distinct from their current research portfolio. Projects for this award must be centered on evidence-based laboratory data and/or medical science.

Applications are invited for an award of $60,000 per year for three years ($50,000 per year for salary and up to $10,000 supplemental funding) will be given to enhance education in musculoskeletal diseases for future doctors and rheumatology health professionals. Recipients of the award have demonstrated that they want to develop a career in education and are devoted to providing effective and efficient training.

The foundation will award six research grants in support of partnerships between academic or organizational researchers and clinical practitioners to conduct collaborative studies designed to enhance evidence for improving communication sciences and disorders services. Funding can be applied to one- or two-year studies.

The Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants program aims to stimulate the growth of new connections between scholars working in largely disconnected fields who could together change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. Over the next two years, BWF will dedicate $1 million to supporting small, early-stage grants of between $2,500 and $50,000 toward achieving this goal.

Proposals are invited to advance knowledge, tools, and techniques in communication sciences and disorders. This grant supports innovative studies, has a promise of major impact, or can meet research needs not yet addressed. Four grants of up $25,000 will be awarded to support a one-or two-year study.

For 2022, an endowed Swallowing Research Fund is available to support proposals for research topics in the area of swallowing and swallowing disorders.
