2nd Largest Gift in History of Lyon Arboretum
(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) — Robert L. Cushing, former University of Hawaiʻi regent (1967-74) and former head of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association, recognized the significance of the Lyon Arboretum at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. As part of his legacy, in 1999 he made a $100,000 gift to support Lyon's enrichment fund.
New Fund Brings Nobel Laureate to Local Cancer Research Center
(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) — Nobel Prize winner and internationally-renowned cancer expert Baruch Blumberg, MD, PhD is participating in local events aimed at raising awareness about liver and other cancers prevalent in Hawaiʻi. This effort is spearheaded by the Cancer Research Center of Hawaiʻi and was made possible thanks to the foresight of the Weinman Foundation.
Armstrong Foundation Builds Excellence
(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) — Bob and Kelly Armstrong through the Armstrong Foundation of Honolulu have pledged $100,000 to support the UH Mānoa School of Architecture's vision for excellence and preeminence in architectural education. To date, they have fulfilled $20,000 of this pledge and have established the Armstrong Builders Fund for Excellence.
